Banana Hat

This is not a new idea by any means, but I’ve not managed to find a pattern. This is based on one sent to me by Ashling, thank you to her for sharing.

Instructions:
Using 4 mm needles, cast on 27 stitches in yellow double knit.
Knit 2 rows
Continue in SS and work 6 rows.
Leave the yellow attached, but join in white.
Continue in SS and work 6 rows in white.
(K2 tog) repeat to end
Purl
(K2 tog) repeat to end
B & T tightly

Skin 1: Hold your work with right side facing you and using a slim cable needle pick up 9 stitches from the right-hand side. Using the yellow end left earlier:
* Beginning with a knit row work 3 rows in SS
Next row: P2 tog, purl to end
Next row: K2 tog, knit to end
Repeat these last two rows until 1st remains.
B & T tightly.**
Skin 2: Pick up the middle 9st, work from * to **
Skin 3: Pick up the last 9st, work from * to **

Making Up:
Over sew the row ends, being careful not to catch the banana skin into the seam!
Turn inside out and finish off the ends where you joined in the wool.
Finally – secure the wool on the ends of the skins, then take the wool using a small running stitch up through the centre of the skin – pull this up so the skin curls and sew in place.  Repeat with the other two skins.
