Using 4mm needles
cast on 28sts in red Rows 1 & 2: Knit 2 rows red Row 3: Purl row red Row 4: Knit row red Row 5: Purl 12st red, 3 black, 13 red. Row 6: Knit 12st red, 5 black, 11 red. Row 7: Purl 10st red, 7 black, 11 red. Row 8: Knit 11st red, 7 black, 10 red. Row 9: Purl 9st red, 9 black, 10 red. Row 10: Knit 9st red, 3 black , 5 red, 3 black, 8 red. Row 11: Purl 8st red, 1 black, 9 red, 1 black (tie off black), 9 red. Row 12: Knit row red Row 13: Purl row red Row 14: Knit row red Row 15: Purl row red Row 16: Knit two together across row red (giving 14st) Row 17: Purl two together across row red (giving 7st) B & T and use the same end to sew up the back seam of the hat. |

Eyes (make two) Cast on 6 stitches in white Starting with a Knit row, stocking stitch 5 rows. B & T, create purse string around edge of knitting and stuff before tightening purse string stitch. Repeat and sew two eyes in place adding wonky black pupils with black wool and an orange pom pom nose. |
