Christingle ~ Designed by Lorraine Dore

This pattern Lorraine dedicates to Suzy.

The orange represents the world.
The lit candle represents Jesus Christ as light of the world.
The red ribbon symbolises love and blood of Christ.
The dried fruit and sweets represent fruits of the earth and the four seasons. (Lorraine used buttons)

Instructions:
You will need number 9 (3.75 mm) or 8 (4.00 mm) knitting needles and number 11 (3.0 mm) knitting needles for the candle. Orange, red, white and yellow double knitting wool. 4 different coloured buttons.

Cast on 28 stitches, leaving a long, for sewing with each colour change.
Rows 1 and 2 – k (orange)
Rows 3 to 8 – sts (orange)
Rows 9 to 12 – stocking, garter or moss st (red)
Rows 13 to 18 – sts (orange)
Row 19 – k2tog across row (orange) (14 sts)
Row 20 – p2tog across row (orange (7 sts)
Row 21 – k1, k2tog, k1, k2tog, k1 (orange) (5 sts)
Change to white wool
Row 22 – k1, p3, k1
Change to number 11 (3.0 mm) knitting needles
Row 23 – k
Row 24 – k1, p3, k1
Row 25, 27, 29, 31, 33, 35, 37 as for row 23
Row 26, 28, 30, 32, 34, 36 as for row 24
Cast off purl wise.

Making Up:
Make the first stitch in the top of the candle, do not fasten. Cut a length of yellow wool and double sew the flame, knot wool and cut the length on the candle. Place wool in the centre of the candle and using the white wool sew the candle, knot the wool securely. Using orange wool sew the orange edges, using red wool sew the red edge of the hat. Sew the four coloured buttons on in the position of the 3, 6, 9 and 12 on the clock face.
