Clanger Hat
Instructions:
Using 4 mm needles cast on 3 in light pink double knit wool
Row 1: Inc in each st (6st)
Row 2: Purl
Change to darker pink (work in SS unless specified)
Row 3: Knit
Row 4: (K1, inc) repeat to end (9st)
Row 5: Knit
Row 6: Purl
Row 7: K1, inc, K to last 2st, inc, K1 (11st)
Row 8: Purl
SS 2 rows
Repeat Rows 7 & 8, 5 times (21st)
Row 21: K1, inc, K to last 2st, inc, K1 (23st)
Row 22: P1, inc, P to last 2st, inc, P1 (25st)
Row 23: K1, inc, K to last 2st, inc, K1 (27st)
Row 24: Purl
Row 25: K1, inc, K to last 2st turn
Row 26: Sl1, P to last 2st turn
Row 27: Sl1, K to last 4st turn
Row 28: Sl1, P to last 4st turn
Continue this pattern leaving 2 more stitches un-knitted until you are leaving 12st on a purl row
Row 37: Knit to last 2st, inc, K1 (29st)
Row 38: Purl
Row 39: K1, inc, K to last 2st turn
Row 40: Sl1, P to last 2st turn
Row 41: Sl1, K to last 4st turn
Row 42: Sl1, P to last 4st turn
Continue this pattern leaving 2 more stitches un-knitted until you are leaving 12st on a purl row
Row 51: Sl1, Knit to end
Rows 52 – 54: Knit
Cast Off
Ears – Make 2
Cast on 5 for top of ear
Row 1: K1, inc, Knit to last 2st, inc, K1 (7st)
Row 2: Purl
Repeat these 2 rows 2 times (11st)
Rows 7 – 9: SS
Row 10: (P2tog x 2), P3, (P2tog x 2) (7st)
Row 11: Knit
Cast Off
Making Up:
Use buttons for eyes and sew on as illustrated.
Starting at the nose oversew the row ends.
Sew an ear to either side of the head, if you fold the bottom edge over slightly it makes a good shape.
Cut 5 lengths of brown yarn, approx 4″ long.
Lay these side by side and tie a knot in the middle.
Fasten another length of brown yarn to the knot, leaving an extra strand of hair.
Sew the hair in place through the knot between the ears.
Cut the hair to style!
