Instructions:
Using contrast colour and 4mm needles, cast on 42 sts.
Make sure you leave a tail at the start for sewing up the contrast rows.
Row 1 Knit
Row 2 purl 1, purl 2 together to end – 28 sts.
Row 3 knit 1 *yrn knit 2 tog* to last stitch, knit 1
Row 4 purl to end, checking that there are still 28 sts.
Changing to main colour, ss 12 – 14 rows beginning with a knit row.
For a straight base:
Cast off and sew up base and sides to contrast colour.
Sew up to main colour using contrast “tail” tie yarn ends together and weave in before cutting.
For a rounded base:
Knit 2 tog to end of next row. – 14 sts.
Next row, purl 2 tog – 7 sts.
Gather as for bobble type hat and sew side seam.
The Cord:
Make a tie by twisting or plaiting yarn and thread through the holes.
Tie the ends together. If adding any decoration, do this before sewing up.
