Lovebird Hat

Instructions:
Head
Using 4 mm needles and double knit wool
A = body colour, B = breast and tail colour, C = wing colour. 
Cast on 28 in A
Row 1: K9 in A, K10 in B, K9 in A
Rows 2 – 5 all in SS: 9 in A, 10 in B, 9 in A
Row 6: P10 in A, P8 in B, P10 in A
Row 7: K11 in A, K6 in B, K11 in A
Row 8: P12 in A, P4 in B, P12 in A
Work 6 more rows in SS using A
Next row: (K2 tog) repeat to end
Next row: (P2 tog) repeat to end
B&T tightly

Tail
Cast on 4 in B
Starting with a K row, SS 2 rows
Next row: Knit 1, inc, inc, Knit 1
SS 6 rows then P3 rows then SS 6 rows
Knit 1, K2tog, K2tog, Knit 1
SS 2 rows
Cast off

Wings – make 2
Cast on 6 in C
Knit 3 rows
Next 2 rows: K2tog, K to end
Knit 2 rows
Next 2 rows: K2 tog, K to end
B & T

Making Up:
Sew up the row ends of the head. 
Create three loops on top of the head and secure. 
Work the beak as illustrated using wool and attach two beads for eyes. 
Fold tail in half, oversew row ends and attach to back of bird. 
Sew the cast on edge of the wings to the side of the bird as illustrated.
Anything goes with these birds – the brighter, the better! 
They even look good in one colour – mix and match to your heart’s content – the Love Birds are indeed lovely.
