Strawberry Hat
This pattern has been copied from the Age UK website it was one of the first novelty hats that I tried knitting, and still a great design.
Instructions:
Using 4 mm needles, cast on 28 stitches in red double knit
Knit 2 rows
Beginning with a Knit row, continue in SS throughout:
Row 1: Red
Row 2: Red
Row 3: 2 red, (1 black, 3 red) repeat to end
Row 4: red
Row 5: red
Row 6: (3 red, 1 black) repeat to end
Row 7: red
Row 8: red
Row 9: 2 red, (1 black, 3 red) repeat to end
SS 3 rows in red
Row 13: (1 green, 3 red) repeat to end
Row 14: 1 green, (1 red, 3 green) repeat to end
(K2 tog) repeat to end
(P2 tog) repeat to end
K1, (K2 tog) to end
Do 6 rows on these 4 stitches as an I-cord
K2 tog twice, pass the first st over the second.
B & T tightly
Making Up:
Oversew the row ends, being careful to have the stalk in the right place as you work, as this won’t need sewing up.
